TANGAIL, Feb 03, 2026 (BSS) - Salauddin Alamgir, an independent candidate for Tangail-8 constituency in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad polls has said he wants to make Basail and Sakhipur a role model for development.

Salauddin Alamgir, who is contesting with deer symbol, has expressed his thoughts regarding the election in an interview with BSS Tangail district correspondent Mohiuddin Suman.

In the interview, he has made various promises to the people for the development of the area. The independent candidate also said steps will be taken to eliminate unemployment.

BSS: What is your election promises for the voters of your area?

Salauddin Alamgir: Doing something for the people is my joy. If elected, I want to continue to develop these two upazilas- Basail and Sakhipur as role models for development, which will be free from discrimination. I want to improve the quality of life of the voters of my constituency and turn them into self-reliant skilled human resources by creating employment for the unemployed youth. Along with this, the destroyed education system will be modernised and a technology-based education system will be established. I want to bring zero tolerance against terrorism, drugs, bribery, corruption, gambling, tender rigging, extortion and nepotism. I want to work by establishing social justice with equality and human dignity and maintaining the bond of religious harmony. I want to ensure transparency in the distribution of government incentives, subsidised fertilizers and seeds for farmers. I want to ensure special agricultural loans from banks for marginal farmers in the Sakhipur hilly area for production of various fruits including bananas, dragon fruits. I am participating in the election mainly to improve the quality of life of the people and develop various infrastructures including roads, bridges, and culverts in the area. One of my election promises is to set up training centres for the youth of the two upazilas.

BSS: What are your instructions to the leaders and workers to follow the election code of conduct?

Salauddin Alamgir: I hope that this election will be different and meaningful than the past elections. As an independent candidate, I think that there should be a beautiful and fair election. I am happy even if I get one vote in the election. However, the election must be held in a fair and impartial manner. Wherever I go, I am careful to follow the electoral code of conduct, and I am requesting the leaders and workers to follow the code of conduct properly.

BSS: What is your position on the referendum on the July Charter?

Salauddin Alamgir: Many people in rural areas do not know about July and the referendum. Mass awareness needs to be raised among them. If they are aware, the voters will decide about the referendum. People will decide on what they think is good about voting Yes or No. People want an end to discrimination.

BSS: What are your expectations in the upcoming elections?

Salauddin Alamgir: If there is no fair election, the hopes and aspirations of the students and the public in this country will not be reflected. Through a free and fair election, the people will exercise their right to vote and choose the candidate of their choice. We are working to fulfil the expectations of the people and voters. Voters are responding secretly and openly. If there is a fair election, I will win as an independent candidate through a silent vote revolution, InshaAllah.
