NATORE, Feb 8, 2026 (BSS) – Md. Abdul Hakim, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami candidate for Natore-4 (Baraigram and Gurudaspur) constituency, has pledged to divide Baraigram into two upazilas, establish an economic zone and an agricultural university to modernize agricultural sector of the area.
Abdul Hakim, assistant secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami’s Natore district committee, shared his plans for the upcoming election in an interview with BSS.
Asked about his electoral commitments, Hakim said, “My top priority is improving transportation systems to ensure uninterrupted communication in this agriculture-dependent area. I aim to modernize agriculture and improve healthcare services, including the establishment of an ICU in health complexes.
“I also plan to ensure free medical treatment for the elderly and facilitate social security and agricultural benefits for beneficiaries,” he said.
He emphasized the need to upgrade the Banpara-Hatikumrul highway to a four-lane road. Hakim also proposed the establishment of an agricultural university in a convenient location between Baraigram and Gurudaspur, along with the creation of an economic zone to boost industrialization and create job opportunities and creating human resources.
Hakim further pledged to hold regular meetings with the public every two months to address their concerns and work towards religious harmony in the region.
On compliance with the election code of conduct, he said, “We are committed to strictly adhering to the Election Commission’s guidelines. Our party leaders and workers will ensure no violations of the code of conduct. We aim to create a peaceful, friendly election environment.”
Regarding the July Charter referendum, Hakim urged voters to cast their ballots for the ‘Yes’ symbol. “I am hopeful that the ‘Yes’ vote will win overwhelmingly,” he said.
Expressing his expectations for the upcoming elections, Hakim stated, “I have received overwhelming support from people of all backgrounds. I firmly believe that with a free, fair, and impartial election, we will win with the blessings of Almighty Allah.”
Natore-4 comprises two upazilas, three municipalities, and 13 unions, with 167 polling stations and a total of 445,172 voters, including 221,349 men, 223,820 women, and three third-gender voters.
Other candidates contesting the seat include Md. Abdul Aziz of BNP (Dhaner Sheesh), Md. Emdadullah of Islami Andolan Bangladesh (Hatpakha), M. Yusuf Ahmad of Jatiya Party (Langol), and Md. Mokshedul Momin of Amar Bangladesh Party (Eagle).
