NATORE, Feb 8, 2026 (BSS) - Independent candidate for the Natore-3 (Singra) constituency in the upcoming parliamentary election Md. Daudar Mahmu has said that he wants to work to promote tourism centered on Chalan Beel.

Daudar also expressed his commitment to standing by ordinary people in their times of joy and sorrow.

Md. Daudar Mahmud contested the 2018 election as a BNP candidate. In the upcoming election, after failing to secure the BNP’s “Sheaf of Paddy” symbol, he is contesting as an independent candidate with the “Horse” symbol. Due to his candidacy in the election, he has been expelled from his latest position as Joint Convener of the district BNP.

Daudar Mahmud is considered a top contender in this constituency. He answered various questions regarding the election in an interview taken by Farazi Ahmad Rafiq Baban, district correspondent of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS).

BSS: What are your election promises to the voters of your constituency?
Daudar Mahmud: I have been actively involved in politics for the past 29 years. I trust the people, and the people trust me as well. I always stand by them in happiness and sorrow. In the scorching afternoon of the month of Chaitra, during the hardships of the monsoon, and in dangers late at night, they find me by their side. For the past 17 years, I have been actively involved in the anti-fascist movement, and I stood by those affected by that movement. If elected, I want to continue standing by them in the same way.

I want to work for the development of Chalan Beel. I want to dry the wet paddy produced in Chalan Beel—known as the granary of crops—using modern methods and store it properly. I also want to take all effective measures to promote tourism in Chalan Beel.

BSS: What instructions have you given to your leaders and activists regarding compliance with the election code of conduct?
Daudar Mahmud: I have held workshops with my followers and activists and informed them about the election code of conduct. My followers and I are properly observing the code of conduct in all campaign activities, including campaigning through (loudspeaker) miking, banners, and organizing public meetings.

BSS: What is your position on the referendum regarding the July Charter?
Daudar Mahmud: Since the people of the country rejected the elections of 2014, 2018, and 2024, the July mass uprising took place. We want to start everything anew. We no longer want elections like those of the past. Therefore, we have a firm position in favor of a ‘Yes’ vote in the referendum to implement the July Charter.

BSS: What are your expectations regarding the upcoming parliamentary election?
Daudar Mahmud: Because of my worker-friendly stance, people can easily reach me. That is why the people of Singra will elect Singra’s own son. Wherever I go, there is a surge of people. I seek everyone’s prayers and blessings. I am 100 percent hopeful about victory.

The Natore-3 constituency comprises one municipality and 12 unions of Singra upazila. There are 118 polling centers. The total number of voters in the constituency is 326,872, of which 164,087 are men, 162,781 are women, and 4 are third-gender voters.
