BOGURA, Feb 9, 2026 (BSS) – Dabbibur Rahman, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami candidate for the Bogura-5 (Sherpur-Dhunat) constituency, stated that his primary goal is to establish a justice-based and corruption-free Bogura-5.

Historically, the Bogura-5 seat has been dominated by BNP and Awami League since the independence of Bangladesh. While the Jatiya Party held the seat once, a candidate from Jamaat-e-Islami has never represented this parliamentary seat.

However, Dabbibur Rahman, the current Ameer of Sherpur Upazila Jamaat, has sparked new interest in the race. Having previously served as a popular Upazila Chairman (elected with a large margin in 2014) and as a Vice-Chairman in both upazilas, many see him as a strong contender.

In an exclusive interview with Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), he shared his vision and expectations regarding the upcoming polls.

BSS: What are your electoral promises for the local voters?

Dabbibur Rahman: I want to build Sherpur-Dhunat as a justice-based and corruption-free community. My commitment is to ensure education, health, and social security in the light of good governance, ethical politics, and Islamic values.

BSS: What are your instructions regarding the election code of conduct and campaigning?

Dabbibur Rahman: Jamaat-e-Islami always believes in the politics of law and order. Our workers and supporters have clear instructions to conduct peaceful campaigns and to avoid falling for any provocations.

BSS: What is your position on the referendum regarding the July Charter?

Dabbibur Rahman: Taking the public's opinion on important national issues is a fundamental part of the democratic process. However, the referendum must be held in a transparent and neutral environment where there is no scope for distorting the people's will. To ensure the future structure of the country, my party and I are in favour of the ‘Yes’ vote.

BSS: What are your expectations for the upcoming parliamentary election?

Dabbibur Rahman: I hope that through a free and fair election, the people will be able to elect their true representatives. InshaAllah, the verdict of the people will prevail.

A total of five candidates are contesting the Bogura-5 seat: G.M. Siraj (BNP), Dabibur Rahman (Jamaat-e-Islami), Mir Md. Mahmudur Rahman (Islami Andolon), Shipon Kumar Rabidas (CPB), and Khan Kudrat E Saklain (LDP).

The constituency features 188 polling centers with a total of 1,023 booths (997 permanent and 26 temporary).

In Sherpur Upazila, there are 306,841 voters, including 149,862 males, 156,976 females, and 3 third-gender (Hijra) voters. In Dhunat Upazila, 265,499 voters are expected to exercise their rights, comprising 131,425 males, 134,071 females, and 3 third-gender (Hijra) voters.
