
SANGSAD BHABAN, Sept 6, 2026 (BSS) - Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury today said in Jatiya Sangsad (JS) that the government is making all-out efforts to facilitate farmers with loans and other support to create opportunities for them to continue agricultural activities.
"We are giving priority to farmers in determining our agricultural policy and making every effort from the government side to create opportunities for them to continue cultivation," he said while replying to a supplementary question from opposition lawmaker Muhammad Ali Asgar (Pabna-3) in the House today with
Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal in the chair.
The government took a decision to waive agricultural loans of up to Taka 10,000 after assuming office, the minister said, adding: "A huge amount of agricultural loans has been waived for those who borrowed up to Taka 10,000."
Khosru said the government continues its efforts to provide loans to farmers and facilitate their farming activities.
Earlier, replying to a starred question from ruling party lawmaker Anisur Rahman (Madaripur-3), the Finance Minister said that the government has now no such plan to distribute interest free loans among the country's farmers.
"But, agricultural and rural credit is being distributed among the farmers on soft terms and at low interest rates," he added.
