SANGSAD BHABAN, Sept 8, 2026 (BSS) - Education Minister Dr A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon today said the government plans to introduce mid-day meals in all madrasahs, including Ebtedayi madrasahs, during the 2026-2031 fiscal years.

“In line with the government’s election manifesto, a programme has been undertaken to give priority to students’ ‘health and food’,” he said in reply to a scripted question from ruling party lawmaker Md Shawkatul Islam of Moulvibazar-2 during the day’s question and answer session in the Jatiya Sangsad today with Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal in the chair.

The minister said the government has formulated the Madrasah Education Excellence Support Program (MEESP) under the Education Ministry’s SEDP programme to expand support for madrasah students.

“Through this scheme, mid-day meals will be introduced in all madrasahs during the 2026-2031 fiscal years. Ebtedayi madrasahs are also included,” he said.

In his question, the lawmaker asked why students of madrasahs, particularly students of neglected orphanages, have not received the midday meal facility despite the government providing midday meals to primary school students.
