HC’s complete verdict in BUET student Abrar murder case published

DHAKA, May 3, 2025 (BSS) – The complete verdict of the High Court (HC) that upheld the death and life term imprisonment of BUET student Abrar Fahad murder case given by the lower court has been published. 

Lawyer of the accused Azizur Rahman Dulu told BSS that he had received the copy of 131-page verdict of the HC. 

The HC on March 16 last announced the verdict upholding the lower court order of sentencing death penalties to 20 accused and life term to five others upon completion hearing of the death references and appeals of the accused.
 
The accused whose death sentences were upheld by the apex court are: Mehedy Hasan Russell, Md Anik Sarker, Mehedi Hasan Robin, Ifti Mosharraf Sokal, Md Moniruzzaman Monir, Md Meftahul Islam Jion, Md Majedur Rahman Majed, Md Mujahidur Rahman, Khandoker Tabakkarul Islam Tanvir, Hossain Mohammad Toha, Md Shamim Billah, ASM Nazmus Sadat, Morshed Amarta Islam, Muntasir Al Jemmy, Md Shamsul Arefin Rafat, Md Mizanur Rahman, SM Mahmud Setu, Morshed-uz-Zaman Mondol Zisan, Ehtemashul Rabbi Tanim and Mutoba Rafid. 

The accused whose life term sentences were upheld by the HC are: Muhtasim  Fuad Hossain, Md Akash Hossain, Muaz Abu Huraira, Amit Saha and Ishtiaq Ahmed Munna.
Earlier on October 6 in 2019, Abrar, Abrar, a student of electrical and electronics engineering of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) was brutally murdered at its Sher-e-Bangla Hall. 

A Dhaka court later on December 8 in 2021 announced a verdict sentencing death penalties to 20 accused and life term to five others. 

The death references were sent to the HC on January 6 in 2022.
