DHAKA, July 27, 2025 (BSS) - The High Court has directed the government to form a probe committee into the arrest of children in connection with the incident of attacks and violence centering the National Citizen Party’s July March programme in Gopalganj.

A HC division bench comprising Justice Kazi Zinat Hoque and Justice Aynun Nahar Siddiqua today passed the order following a hearing on a writ petition in this regard.

The bench also fixed November 5 for the next hearing.

The rule sought to know why the inaction in considering the Children Act 2013 and UN Convention on the Rights of the Child should not be declared as beyond legal authority.

Home Affairs Secretary, Women and Children Affairs Secretary, Law Secretary and the Inspector General of Police, along with the respondents; have been asked to respond to this rule.

The court gave the respondents three months to submit the investigation report.

A report titled “277 arrested in Gopalganj, 9 children among them” was published in a national daily on July 20.

Attaching that report, two Supreme Court lawyers filed a writ petition on July 21, seeking consideration of the Children Act 2013 and UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in the case of arrested children. The two writ petitioners are Utpal Biswas and Abeda Gulrukh.

The writ petitioners moved the writ in the court while Deputy Attorney General Nur Muhammad Azami stood for the state.
