Two get death penalty for murder in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, Aug 26, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today sentenced two individuals 
to death and one to life-term imprisonment for killing a youth, Mahfuzur 
Rahman, from EPZ Police Station in the city. 

The incident occurred in 2020 due to a family feud.
 
The Chattogram third Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Nishaduzzaman 
delivered the verdict, sentencing Tanvir Mohammad Sajeeb and Md. Hridoy to 
death while Md. Ahsan alias Yasin received a life sentence in the verdict. 

The court also imposed a fine of Taka 25,000 on each of the convicts.
 
Additionally, the court fined Yasin Taka 20,000, in default, to suffer six 
months more in jail.
 
According to the prosecution, the victim Mahfuz Rahman's body was found in a 
house near Shaheen Shah Tower in the Newmooring area of the EPZ Police 
Station on May 2, 2020.

The accused tied the victim's hands and feet, covered his face and mouth, and 
strangled him to death. Later, they staged the murder as a suicide by hanging 
the victim from a stairwell grill.
 
The victim's younger brother filed a case with the EPZ Police Station on the 
same day, leading to the submission of the charge-sheet on May 2, 2021 and 
framing of charges on January 25, 2022.
 
After examining 12 out of 21 prosecution witnesses in the presence of the 
convicted individuals, the court announced the verdict. Subsequently, the 
convicts were sent to jail based on the original warrant.
