Passport of Smart Fashion owner Tajul blocked

DHAKA, April 02, 2026 (BSS) – A Dhaka court today ordered to block the passport of Tajul Islam Chowdhury Bappi, proprietor of Smart Fashion and Chowdhury and Khan Auto Bricks, over graft allegations.


Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the order, allowing a plea of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).


The petition said that during the investigation, evidence was found indicating that Tajul Islam Chowdhury Bappi was involved in offences related to laundering Taka 2.51 crore, allegedly earned through illegal establishment of brick kilns, forgery of deeds and documents, cheating, fraud and extortion.


A case was filed against the accused with Pallabi Police Station in the capital on March 5, 2026, under Section 4(2) of the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2012 (Amended in 2015). The accused named in the FIR is currently absconding and may leave the country at any time to evade arrest.


The petition further prayed for necessary orders to block the passport of the accused and to assist in his arrest by directing the Special Superintendent of Police (Immigration Administration), Special Branch of Bangladesh Police, Dhaka, in the interest of a fair investigation into the case.
