Ex-DGFI official Manjil remanded in July uprising killing case

DHAKA, April 10, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today placed former official of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) Major (Retd) Manjil Haider Chowdhury on a four-day remand in a case lodged over the killing of hawker Abdul Wadud during the July Mass Uprising.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Alam passed the order as police produced him before the court and pleaded to place him on a seven-day remand in the case.

Police on April 9 arrested Chowdhury from a house in Mohakhali DOHS in the capital.

According to the case documents, Wadud was shot and killed in the Nilkhet area under New Market Police Station on July 19, 2024. His brother-in-law Abdur Rob filed the case against 130 persons, including Sheikh Hasina and Obaidul Quader.
