DHAKA, June 15, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today ordered to send Riazul Hassan (50), an accused of Ramna Thana unit convener of Jatiyatabadi Sheschasebok Dal Billal Hossain murder case, to jail.

The Investigation Officer (IO) of the case produced him before the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court after ending his five-day police remand and prayed for confining him into jail till the end of the investigation of the case.

Metropolitan Magistrate (MM) Manjurul Islam, on behalf of the CMM, ordered to send him to jail after hearing on the petition of the IO.

Earlier, on June 10, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Md Zakir Hossain granted five days remand to Riazul Hassan in connection with the Billal murder case.

According to the case documents, Billal Hossain operated a business at Arafat Market in Ramna area. He had been involved in a long-standing dispute with several individuals including Didarul Islam Babu, over alleged extortion from local traders.

On June 8 at around 7:30 p.m., Didarul Islam Babu allegedly called Billal to a nearby place of Arafat Market under the pretext of a mediation meeting.

Investigators say several accused persons were already waiting there and attacked him indiscriminately. At one stage, Babu and his associates allegedly assaulted him with iron rods, concrete stumps and sharp weapons.

The complaint further alleged that Babu stabbed Billal in his chest with a sharp weapon during the attack, leaving him critically injured. Local residents rescued him and took him first to nearby Islami Bank Hospital and later to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Attending doctors of the hospital declared him dead at 9:45 pm while he was undergoing treatment.

On June 9, Billal's wife, Asia Khatun, filed a murder case with Ramna Police Station. The case named 21 accused including Didarul Islam Babu and also included 7 to 8 unidentified suspects.
