Court scraps bail plea of ex-CJ Khairul Haque in July killing case

DHAKA, June 21, 2026 (BSS) - A court here today scrapped a bail plea of former chief justice (CJ) ABM Khairul Haque in case lodged over murder of one 
Khobaib, 20, in the city's Jatrabari area during 2024 July Mass Uprising.

Judge Salekin Habib Bappy of Dhaka Seventh Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court passed the order as the defence moved the plea before the court.

The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sarah Farzana Haque on May 23, 2026, showed the former chief justice arrested in the case and sent him to 
jail.

A team of Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested Haque, 80, from the capital's Dhanmondi area on July 24, 2025. He was later shown arrested in a 
case lodged over the killing of one Abdul Qaium Ahad during the July-August Mass Uprising.

Khobaib was shot dead under the Jatrabari Flyover on August 5, 2024. His brother Zobayer Ahmed filed the case on November 16, 2024.
