DHAKA, June 23, 2026 (BSS) - A Dhaka court today placed lawyer Shafiq Nazrul on a four-day remand in a case filed over allegations of committing fraud by using the photographs of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's daughter Zaima Rahman and Attorney General Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal's daughter Adiba in Facebook advertisements.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam passed the order as police produced Nazrul before the court and pleaded to place him on a seven-day remand.
According to the case statement, Shafiq Nazrul used to target Bangladesh Bar Council examination candidates through a Facebook page named "LAW DOCTOR". Through the page, he allegedly attracted examinees by running eye-catching advertisements claiming, "Guaranteed pass by studying only 100 MCQs".
The case statement said a Bar Council candidate contacted him after seeing the advertisement, when Shafiq introduced himself as a person having close connections with influential circles. To gain the candidate's trust, he allegedly used photographs of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's daughter Zaima Rahman and members of the Attorney General's family including his daughter.
The case statement further said that Shafiq Nazrul allegedly demanded Taka eight lakh from the victim, assuring him of success in the Bar Council examination. It said Shafiq received at least Taka 4.05 lakh from the victim in phases through Dutch-Bangla Bank and Nagad accounts. However, the alleged fraud came to light after the victim failed the Bar Council MCQ examination held on June 12.
Following the incident, the case was filed with the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station on June 22.
