Brother-in-law sentenced to life for kidnapping his sister-in-law in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM, June 23, 2026 (BSS) - A court in Chattogram has sentenced an youth, Fazlul Karim, to life-term imprisonment for kidnapping and rape his 17-year-old sister-in-law, which occurred under the pretense of taking her to eat fuchka in the Khaja Road area of the city. 
 
On Tuesday, June 23, Judge SM Zillur Rahman of the Chattogram Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-5 delivered the verdict. Public prosecutor Md. Akbar Ali informed BSS that the evidence presented, along with the testimonies of five witnesses, conclusively proved the charges of kidnapping and rape against the 17-year-old sister-in-law, leading to the life sentence for the accused. 
 
Additionally, the court imposed a fine of TK five lakh for the crime, with a provision for an extra six months of imprisonment in case of default. In a related aspect of the same case, the accused received a sentence of 17 years of rigorous imprisonment, along with a fine of two lakh taka and an additional six months' imprisonment in default. 
 
The accused is currently absconding after having been released on bail, and an arrest warrant has been issued following the original sentence warrant. 
 
According to the case details, on October 31, 2022, the brother-in-law lured his sister-in-law to the Khaja Road area of Chandgaon police station, claiming that he would treat her with fuchka. He subsequently abducted and raped her. 
 
The victim's father, Mohammad Ali Babul, filed a case as the plaintiff. Following the investigation, a charge-sheet was submitted to the court. On February 2, 2025, the charge sheet was formalized against the accused, and the trial commenced.
