DHAKA, June 21, 2026 (BSS) - The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has taken extensive and stringent security measures to maintain law and order and ensure overall security across the capital on June 23, marking the founding anniversary of Awami League (AL), activities of which are banned.
A comprehensive security plan has been undertaken to prevent any untoward incidents centring on various programmes scheduled for the party's founding anniversary and to maintain public safety throughout the city.
The information was disclosed today in a DMP press release.
According to the release, special police pickets and checkpoint duties will be conducted at more than 200 strategic locations across the capital on the occasion.
At the same time, strict checkpoints and intensified search operations will remain in force at all entry points to Dhaka to prevent any outsider or suspicious individual from creating disorder.
To further strengthen security arrangements, DMP's specialised units will remain active alongside regular police personnel.
Among them, the Detective Branch (DB) and the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit will remain deployed round the clock.
In addition, the Special Branch (SB) and the Internal Affairs Division (IAD) will conduct extensive intelligence operations in plain clothes to thwart any potential sabotage or conspiracy in advance.
The release said 15 Quick Response Teams (QRTs) will remain on constant standby at different points across the metropolis to respond swiftly and effectively to any emergency situation.
Besides, adequate reserve forces will remain on standby at four major control rooms in Dhaka to deal with emergencies and will be ready for immediate deployment when required.
More than 18,000 DMP officers and personnel will be deployed in the field to carry out security duties.
The large-scale security operation will not be confined to routine arrangements alone; DMP Commissioner and all senior police officials will remain present in the field to supervise security measures and provide necessary directions.
