PM off to China wrapping up two-day Malaysia tour

KUALA LUMPUR, June 22, 2026 (BSS) - Prime Minister Tarique Rahman left here this afternoon for Dalian, China, wrapping up his two-day Malaysia tour.

A special Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight carrying the Prime Minister, his wife Dr Zubaida Rahman and members of the delegation departed Kuala Lumpur International Airport at about 5pm local time, Prime Minister's Additional Press Secretary Atiqur Rahman Rumon said. 

He said, "Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has started his journey from Malaysia to Dalian, China. He will be in Dalian for busy two-day programmes. After that, the Prime Minister will go to the Chinese capital Beijing. The main programme of the Prime Minister's official visit to China will begin there."

The Prime Minister will attend the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Dalian, he said. 

Malaysian Religious Affairs Minister Zulkifli Hasan and his wife saw the Prime Minister off at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

Bangladesh High Commissioner to Malaysia Manjurul Karim Khan Chowdhury and Deputy High Commissioner Mosammat Shahanara Monica were present on the occasion. 

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman arrived in Malaysia on a two-day visit on Sunday.

This was the Prime Minister's first overseas after assuming office as the head of the government on February 17 last with an absolute majority in the 11th national elections.

During this brief visit, a long meeting was held between the Prime Minister of Bangladesh and his Malaysia counterpart Anwar Ibrahim. 

First, a one-to-one meeting was held between the two prime ministers.

Later, various important issues related to the bilateral interest were discussed in another meeting. 

A discussion was also held on a larger scale with representatives of both sides.

He is expected to return home on June 26, wrapping up his first official overseas tour since taking office.
