3 get life term for gang rape in Tangail

TANGAIL, July 7, 2026 (BSS) – A tribunal here today sentenced three men to life imprisonment in a case filed over the gang rape of a woman in Madhupur upazila here in 2023.

District and Sessions Judge ANM Ilias of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal pronounced the verdict this noon.

The convicts are Abdur Rahim, 45, of Katorbari village in Jamalpur district, Shafiqul Islam Shafi, 47, and Shamsul Haque, 35, both residents of Kamaria village in Mymensingh district.

According to Special Public Prosecutor Md Omrao Khan Dipu, the victim was lured from Jamalpur to the Dokhola forest area in Madhupur on June 22, 2023, on the pretext of being introduced to a prospective groom. She was later gang raped by the accused.

Following the incident, a case was filed with Madhupur Police Station. After completion of the trial, the court delivered the judgment today.
