DHAKA, Feb 7, 2025 (BSS) - The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) is likely to receive probe reports of several cases filed over July-August genocide incidents within February.
Confirming this to BSS, ICT Chief Prosecutor Muhammad Tajul Islam said he hopes that probe reports of multiple cases will be submitted by the investigation agency of the tribunal within this month.
"When the trial will be initiated officially, I am hoping that these cases will be completed within a couple of months," he said.
The ICT chief prosecutor said it is their responsibility to ensure neutral trial over July-August crimes against humanity and make sure the punishment of the culprits, so that none can dare to commit such heinous crimes ever after.
"We are committed to efficiently and effectively fulfill the responsibilities entrusted to us. I hope this trial will be completed in the quickest possible time while maintaining its international standard," he added.
Muhammad Tajul Islam said all the accused in these cases are filthy rich as they amassed huge illegal wealth during the tenure of the last Awami League government. So, they are running propaganda at home and abroad to make this trial controversial, he said, adding, "But we hope that the 18 crore people of this country will prevent their propaganda."
Meanwhile, prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim said around 300 complaints have been filed so far with the prosecution and investigation agency of the ICT.
"The International Crimes Tribunal has issued arrest warrants against 110 people in 17 cases. Of the accused, 35 are in jail right now," he said.
