DHAKA, Feb 10, 2025 (BSS) - Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus today called for reconciliation after the July mass uprising that brought an end to the 15 year-long dictatorship and brutal regime of Sheikh Hasina, reign of killing and enforced disappearances.

“Our country's future depends on our ability to overcome the conflict. We must find a way forward together," he said. 

Prof Yunus said this in a meeting with the families of the victims who were killed and injured during the July mass uprising.

He announced that the Interim Government would begin providing financial assistance to the families.

He handed over cheques of financial assistance to 21 families of July revolution martyrs and seven injured persons.

The Chief Adviser reassured the families and the citizens of Bangladesh that all killings and enforced disappearances would be investigated and the perpetrators would be brought to justice.

He also urged the families to remain on guard against any move to perpetrate violence or cause bloodshed.

Prof Yunus said, the main thing about a trial is that it should be a fair trial...There should be no injustice. This struggle took place, and this sacrifice happened because we stood against injustice. If we indulge in injustice, where is the difference between them and us?” he said.

“We will not indulge in injustice. Those who break the law will face its consequences. But for those who haven't, we will tell them that 'You have caused me a lot of pain, but I will not do the same for you. This is your country, too. The country belongs to all of us. We all are children of this soil’,” said the Chief Adviser.

"They need to be brought to the right path. They need to be told that what you have done was wrong.”

"You have to make them understand that their path is wrong and they should apologise for what they have done. This is how our country should move forward. Constant conflict will only hold us back," he added.
