DHAKA, April 13, 2025 (BSS) - Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul today said the process through which model Meghna Alam was detained under the Special Powers Act was not correct.

"Police are conducting the probe in this connection and the Ministry of Home Affairs will take appropriate action very soon," he said while talking to newsmen at a press briefing at the secretariat.

The law adviser said the detention of the model has created a lot of controversies and a meeting was held in this connection at the high level of the government.

"I am aware of the statements of people and rights bodies in this regard," he added.

Meanwhile, the High Court (HC) has issued a rule, asking authorities concerned to explain in two weeks as to why it shall not declare her 30-day detention under the Special Powers Act, beyond legal jurisdiction.

A High Court division bench of Justice Razik-Al-Jalil and Justice Tamanna Rahman Khalidi passed the order after holding hearing on a writ petition filed in this connection.

Meghna's father filed the writ, while Barrister Sara Hossain moved the plea before the court.

Model Meghna Alam, winner of Miss Earth Bangladesh 2020, was arrested from her Basundhara Residential Area flat on April 9. A Dhaka court on April 8 ordered a 30-day detention under the Special Powers Act.
