DHAKA, May 25, 2025 (BSS) – The National Board of Revenue (NBR) would be upgraded into a separate and specialized Division of the government under the Ministry of Finance.

According to a press release of the Ministry of Finance issued today, the separation structure of the revenue board for strengthening the NBR and thus turning it into a special entity would be done keeping intact the interests of the BCS (tax) and BCS (customs and VAT) cadres through holding discussions with the NBR, Advisory Committee members on NBR reforms and with the important concerned stakeholders.

The release said that necessary amendments to the already promulgated ‘Revenue Policy and Revenue Management Ordinance 2025’ would be brought by July 31, 2025. It is mentionable that until carrying out necessary amendments, the Ordinance would not become effective.

This press release has been issued to clarify further the previous press note of the Ministry of Finance issued on May 22, 2025 following concerns from the NBR Songskar Oikya Parishad.

The government also hoped that through this, all the concerns of the officials and employees of the income tax, customs and VAT departments would come to an end while all the countywide offices related to revenue collection and rendering revenue services would work with a fresh zeal.
