THAKURGAON, July 4, 2025 (BSS) - National Citizen Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam today called for eliminating regional disparities and carrying out development work in all areas together.
"We do not do power politics, we don't believe in carrying out development work only in the capital Dhaka. We believe that there will be true development when marginal districts like Thakurgaon would come in the same row in the development of the country. No development can take place keeping regional disparities continuing," he said.
Nahid said these at a brief rally at Thakurgaon Bus Stand intersection as the NCP's street march reached the spot this noon.
"You have to remember one thing, this is not the Bangladesh of Sheikh Hasina, it is the Bangladesh of mass uprising. We have started our street march by offering prayers at the grave of martyr Abu Sayed. We consider country's people as the only power to achieve justice, reforms and the new charter," he added.
Terming Thakurgaon as the district of the farmers, Nahid said they want to build such a Bangladesh where there will be no oppression against the farmers.
NCP Member-Secretary Akhtar Hossain also spoke against development disparity and said such inequality has been going on against Thakurgaon region for long, in sectors like education, health, agriculture and labour.
NCP chief organiser (North) Sarjis Alam said the hopes that the youth had instilled in the July mass uprising, have not been materialized in the last one year.
"The basic demands like justice, reforms and formulating a new constitution, are still out of reach. So, we will go to 64 districts, listen to the people and prepare a democratic manifesto," he added.
NCP leaders Rafikul Islam Kanak, Abdul Munim, Asadullah Galib, Akib Uddin and Sadia Farjana Dina also addressed the rally, among others.
NCP chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari, chief organiser (South) Hasnat Abdullah, senior joint member secretary Dr Tasnim Jara, senior joint convener Samantha Sharmin, and senior joint chief coordinator Abdul Hannan Masud, were present on the occasion.
