DHAKA, July 12, 2025 (BSS) - Faiz Ahmed Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the
Chief Adviser of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information
Technology, today said reasonable suggestions will be considered to enrich
the telecom policy.

"The purpose of this policy is generational transformation and we are working
to implement this transformation," he said while addressing roundtable
discussion on 'Telecommunication Network and Licensing Infrastructure' at a
city hotel.

Taiyeb said the number of licenses in the policy will depend on the license
obligation and KPI performance. However, BTRC can find out through private
research organizations how many licenses are required or how many licenses
are optimal, he added.

He said the new investors cannot be stopped in the name of this license
number.

He urged the domestic representatives of foreign companies to work to protect
the country's greatest interests.

Faiz Ahmed Taiyeb said mobile operators have to improve the quality of
service. Otherwise, they will lose customers, he added.

He said, "We want to shift the network from connectivity to service, while
also working to free up lower band frequencies and reform the existing
ecosystem. Reasonable suggestions will be considered to enrich the policy."

He said the good initiative of the government should be welcomed.

The special assistant said no policy has been made in such a democratic way
before. "I have personally talked to everyone about the policy. Those who
will come with the new license will work more powerfully. The license will
not be limited," he added.

BTRC Chairman Major General (retd.) Emdad Ul Bari said telecom is a real-time
service. "If it is changed suddenly, it will be a problem . . . so
sustainable changes will be made with stakeholders. Less than 50 percent of
the country's total population uses the internet. There is a migration plan
in the policy, so there is nothing to worry about license cancellation. No
license is being dropped."

Post and Telecommunication Division Secretary Jahirul Islam said this policy
will encourage domestic and foreign investors.

Foreign Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry Executive Director TIM
Nurul Kabir, ISPAB President Aminul Hakim, World Bank consultant Mahtab Uddin
Ahmed, among others, were present at the event with TRNB President Samir
Kumar Dey in the chair.
