DHAKA, Sept 8, 2025 (BSS) – The long-anticipated Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) election-2025 will take place tomorrow as polling will begin at 8am and continue uninterrupted until 4 pm across all designated booths on the university campus.
The campaign period officially ended yesterday amid rigorous participation from candidates representing various student organizations and independent panels. With campaigning concluded, the campus is now waiting for what is expected to be one of the most closely watched student elections in recent years.
According to the DUCSU Election Commission, all necessary preparations have been finalized. Eight voting booths have been set up in different areas of the campus, with special measures in place to ensure a smooth and transparent election process.
The eight voting booths have been placed at Senate Building, University Club, Udayon School, University Laboratory School, University Gymnasium, TSC, Curzon Hall and Geography department.
To ensure transparency of the vote counting, the authority, for the first time, has decided to display live of vote counting.
Security forces have been deployed in and around the campus to ensure a safe and secure poll.
Visiting the campus area it has been found that units of police, SWAT, and Ansar have been deployed to maintain law and order throughout the polling day and afterwards.
To avoid overcrowding and ensure a secure environment, authorities have decided to restrict entry to the university campus from 8 pm tomorrow. Only registered students, election officials, and authorized personnel will be allowed inside the campus and polling venues.
Law enforcement officers will conduct ID checks at all entry points.
In a related move, the TSC metro station remained close from this afternoon to avoid any unprecedented event.
Briefing on the security measures, DMP Commissioner this afternoon said, "The campus has remained secure over the past 10 days, and it will remain so tomorrow as well.”
“Our security measures will be in place until 6:30 PM on the 10th. If necessary, the duration will be extended. And till now there is no security threat ahead the DUCSU polls," he said.
The DMP also issued a notice for the vehicles to use alternative routes avoiding DU campus as the vehicle movement restriction inside the campus area will be maintained strictly.
Student enthusiasm remains high despite the heavy security presence. Final campaign events concluded yesterday with processions, poster campaigns, and lively debates that filled the campus with energy. Many students expressed optimism about tomorrow’s election.
The last DUCSU election was held in 2019 after a 28-year hiatus, and this year’s election is being closely followed not just within academic circles but across the nation due to its significance in shaping future leadership.
Talking to BSS, DUCSU Election Commissioner Prof. Jashim Uddin urged all candidates and students to cooperate with officials and maintain dignity. “This election is a celebration of student democracy, and we urge all stakeholders to participate peacefully,” he said.
Commenting on the overall preparation, he said, “I have visited the booths and found all the preparation done properly. Security forces are working to ensure law and order.”
