EU migration director in Dhaka, European Parliament HR team due Sept 15

DHAKA, Sept 9, 2025 (BSS) - A European Commission delegation led by Michael Shotter, Director for Migration and Asylum, has arrived here to participate in the regular dialogue with the Bangladesh government on migration issues.

Diplomatic sources told BSS today that Dhaka is expected to emphasize trade matters during the talks, while the EU side may give greater focus to irregular migration.

During the visit, the delegation will hold a series of meetings with senior officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh today, the sources added.

Meanwhile, a six-member delegation of the European Parliament, led by Chair of the Subcommittee on Human Rights (DROI) Mounir Satouri, is scheduled to visit Bangladesh on September 15-19.

According to a senior official, the delegation will hold meetings with Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus, Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain, and National Consensus Commission Vice Chair Prof Ali Riaz, as well as with representatives of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, and National Citizen Party (NCP).

The delegation members are also expected to visit Cox's Bazar, where they will meet Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC) Mohammed Mizanur Rahman.

The European Parliament and its Subcommittee on Human Rights play a key role in promoting, protecting and defending human rights worldwide.
