DHAKA, Dec 03, 2025 (BSS) - The prosecution at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 today pleaded for framing charges against 17 people, including ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her former security adviser Tarique Ahmed Siddique, in a case filed over enforced disappearances and torture at the Taskforce for Interrogation (TFI) Cell during the previous Awami League government.
Chief Prosecutor Muhammad Tajul Islam made the plea as he took part in the hearing today. Meanwhile, the counsel for 10 accused army officials currently in custody, however, argued for discharging his clients.
The tribunal set December 14 for passing the order in this connection. It also scrapped a defence plea seeking exemption of the 10 army officials from personal appearance in further hearings.
The 10 accused are-Md Jahangir Alam, Tofayel Mostafa Sarwar, Md Qamrul Hasan, Md Mahabub Alam, KM Azad, Abdullah Al Momen, Md Moshiur Rahman Jewel, Saiful Islam Suman, Md Sarwar Bin Qashem and Anwar Latif Khan.
The seven other accused, including Sheikh Hasina, Tarique Ahmed Siddique and Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, are yet to be arrested and are being tried in absentia.
Earlier in the day, ICT-1 appointed Advocate Amir Hossain as state defence counsel for ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in two cases filed over enforced disappearances and torture at the TFI Cell and the Joint Interrogation Centre (JIC).
On October 8, ICT-1 took cognisance of charges against all 30 accused, including Sheikh Hasina, in the two enforced disappearance and torture cases. Five charges were brought against 17 people, including Sheikh Hasina and Tarique Ahmed Siddique, in the TFI Cell case.
The remaining accused are: former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former inspector general of police Benazir Ahmed, M Khurshid Hossain, Barrister Md Harun Ur Rashid, Anwar Latif Khan, Md Jahangir Alam, Tofayel Mostafa Sarwar, KM Azad, Md Qamrul Hasan, Md Mahabub Alam, Abdullah Al Momen, Md Sarwar Bin Qashem, Md Khairul Islam, Md Moshiur Rahman Jewel and Saiful Islam Suman.
