
DHAKA, Feb 18, 2026 (BSS) - Home Affairs Minister Salahuddin Ahmed today said maintaining law and order across the country is the foremost priority of the current government, alongside controlling commodity prices and ensuring uninterrupted supply of essential services.
Speaking to journalists after a meeting of newly appointed ministers and state ministers with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at Bangladesh Secretariat here, the minister said the government has adopted a 180-day special priority action plan to address pressing national issues.
He said that in addition to the conventional 100-day initial plan of a new government, a comprehensive and detailed 180-day priority roadmap has been formulated.
"Initially, we are giving importance to controlling commodity prices, keeping the supply chain normal and further improving the law and order situation," he said.
The minister added that the government is also placing special emphasis on preventing any crisis in the power and energy sectors, particularly in gas and electricity supply, to ensure normal daily life and economic activities.
Referring to the today's cabinet meeting and a meeting with secretaries at the Secretariat, Salahuddin Ahmed said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed all government officials to work with sincerity and dedication for the welfare of the country and its people.
"The people have given a mandate in favour of our election manifesto. Therefore, the will of the people will have the highest priority," he said.
He added that officials must perform their duties in accordance with the constitution, existing laws and the rules of business.
On administrative reforms and transparency, the Home Minister made it clear that political identity or personal relations of government officials would not be taken into consideration in carrying out their responsibilities.
