Elderly man dies after falling into fish farm in Satkhira

SATKHIRA, Feb 18, 2026 (BSS) - An elderly man died today after falling into a fish farm (gheri) at Shyamnagar upazila here in the district.

The deceased was identified as Daud Mistri, 70, son of late Moyez Uddin Mistri, a resident of Shankarkati village under Kashimari union of the upazila.

Local people recovered his body from a fish farm on Wednesday morning. 

Family sources said Daud Mistri had been suffering from mental health issues for a long time. He went out of his house early in the morning. Later, around 8:00 am, locals spotted his body floating in a fish farm near his house and recovered it.

The victim's eldest son, Md. Abdul Momin, said his father often used to wander out alone. It is suspected that he accidentally fell into the water.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shyamnagar Thana Khaledur Rahman said that as there was no complaint from the family, the body was handed over for burial without an autopsy following a written request.
