Govt forms new nat'l committee to coordinate Rohingya issues

DHAKA, April 22, 2026 (BSS) - The government has formed a national committee to coordinate and manage overall activities, including controlling law and order, of the forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals in the camp areas of Bangladesh.

The Cabinet Division formed the 16-member committee, with the home minister as its convener, said a gazette notification signed by Additional Secretary (Committee and Finance) Md Humayun Kabir on Tuesday.

The members of the committee are- foreign minister, state minister for Women and Children Affairs, state minister for Disaster Management and Relief, cabinet secretary, principal secretary to the prime minister, senior secretary to the Ministry of Home Affairs, principal staff officer of the Armed Forces Division, foreign affairs secretary, disaster management and relief secretary, inspector general of police, director general (DG) of NGO Affairs Bureau, DG of National Security Intelligence, DG of Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI), Chattogram Divisional Commissioner, and Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner, Cox's Bazar.

Terms of reference of the committee are to coordinate and oversee overall activities relating to the maintenance of law and order in camps of forcibly displaced Myanmar nationals (Rohingyas) sheltered in Bangladesh, including coordination of management and repatriation efforts. To monitor, evaluate, review and provide recommendations on all activities concerning Rohingya nationals, including those undertaken by the National Taskforce (NTF) on repatriation and the National Executive Committee formed for relocating to Bhasan Char, as well as security arrangements and to deal with any other related matters.
