PM orders quick steps to assist haor farmers hit by heavy rainfall

DHAKA, May 7, 2026 (BSS) – Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today directed the authorities concerned to take prompt measures to assist farmers affected by heavy rainfall in the haor region.
 
He gave necessary instructions to prepare a list of the affected farmers with transparency.
 
The Prime Minister issued the directives at a meeting held at his Cabinet Division office in the Bangladesh Secretariat here this afternoon, said a press release of the Prime Minister’s Press wing.
 
The meeting was held to review the activities of providing financial assistance to affected farmers in the haor areas.
 
According to the release, the Prime Minister said, “An accurate and transparent list must be prepared by identifying the actual affected farmers. Based on this list, financial assistance will be provided to the farmers for the next three months”.

The meeting decided that financial assistance would be given to the affected farmers as quickly as possible. Simultaneously, the meeting also held discussions on bringing forward slightly the paddy planting and harvesting activities so that farmers do not suffer losses due to rainfall.
 
Earlier, on April 29, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman told the Jatiya Sangsad that the government would try to provide support for three months by identifying farmers affected by heavy rainfall in the haor areas.
 
Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu, Agriculture, and Fisheries and Livestock Minister Mohammed Aminur Rashid and lawmakers from haor region Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal, State Minister for Textiles and Jute Md Shariful Alam, Dr Osman Faruque, Fazlur Rahman, Lutfozzaman Babar, Kamruzzaman Kamrul, Nurul Islam, Kalim Uddin Ahmed Milon and Mohammad Koysor Ahmed were present at the meeting.
