
DHAKA, July 12, 2026 (BSS) – Former Acting President, former Jatiya Sangsad Speaker, and BNP Standing Committee member Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar was laid to eternal rest at the Jatiya Sangsad premises this afternoon following his namaz-e-janaza.
The janaza was held at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad after asr prayers, attended by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and other dignitaries.
Speaker of the Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram, BNP Secretary General and Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal, Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni, Leader of the Opposition Dr Md Shafiqur Rahman, cabinet members, leaders of different political parties, lawmakers, judges, lawyers, senior government officials, officers and employees of the Parliament Secretariat, admirers and a large number of mourners took part in the janaza.
Before the burial, tributes were paid to the late leader on behalf of the President by Military Secretary to the President ASM Bahauddin.
Floral tributes were also placed by Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed, Bir Bikram, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on behalf of the party, Deputy Speaker Barrister Kayser Kamal, the Chief Whip and other whips, and Parliament Secretary Barrister Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan on behalf of the Parliament Secretariat.
Special prayers were offered seeking eternal peace for the departed soul following the tribute-paying ceremony.
Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar died early today while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the capital. He served as Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad and also as the Acting President of Bangladesh during his long political career. His death has been widely mourned across the country's political and parliamentary arena.
