CHATTOGRAM, Sept 7, 2026 (BSS) - Chattogram Customs has earned Tk 599.59 crore from the sale of goods through online and public auctions during the five and a half years from January 2021 to June 2026.

Of the total, Tk 285.15 crore was earned during the last one and a half years, showing a significant rise in auction revenue. The initiative has also helped clear long-stagnant goods from the Chattogram Port yard while contributing to government revenue.

Officials said the National Board of Revenue (NBR) has taken a special initiative to clear long-standing containers by auctioning goods fit for sale and destroying those unsuitable for auction.

According to Chattogram Customs auction records, 24 auctions were held in 2021, with 1,814 lots sold, generating Tk 115.64 crore in revenue.

In 2022, 42 auctions generated Tk 130.37 crore from the sale of 1,381 lots. In 2023, 632 lots were sold through 23 auctions, earning Tk 41.13 crore.

In 2024, 511 lots were sold through 55 auctions, generating Tk 27.29 crore, while 1,040 lots were sold through 60 auctions in 2025, earning Tk 127.67 crore.

By June this year, 45 online and public auctions had been held, with 383 lots sold for Tk 157.48 crore.

Mohammad Morshed, manager of KM Corporation, which works as auction manager and labour contractor for Chattogram Customs, told BSS that his organization has long been involved in auction management, inventorying consignments and delivering auctioned goods in accordance with the customs authority's directives.

He said Tk 285.15 crore was earned from auctions from 2025 to June 2026, describing it as a record achievement in such a short period.

Abu Sufian, assistant commissioner of Chattogram Customs' Auction Branch, told BSS that undischarged goods are being sold through online and public auctions in line with NBR directives.

"As the frequency of auctions has increased over the past few years, revenue from the sale of auctioned goods has also risen," he said.
He added that efforts are also continuing to clear the port yard by disposing of goods that are not suitable for auction.
