DHAKA, Jan 01, 2025 (BSS) – President Mohammed Shahabuddin today underscored the need for reaching out benefits of the country’s welfare activities and development to everyone so that security for the destitute and helpless people of the society can be ensured.

"There is no alternative to ensuring social security for the distressed and helpless people of the society to reach out the benefits of the country’s welfare activities and development to everyone," he said in message marking the National Social Service Day-2025 to be observed tomorrow.

“I am happy to know that ‘National Social Service Day, 2025’ is being celebrated under the initiative of the Ministry of Social Welfare," the head of the state added.

Noting that it is desirable for everyone to establish a discrimination-free welfare state by ensuring the fundamental rights of the people, he said, adding that the government has taken extensive initiatives to provide social security to the elderly people, widows, women who faces domestic violence, disabled people, disadvantaged children, marginalized and backward communities in order to improve the quality of life of the people, ensure social justice and protect human rights.

The president said this year’s theme of the day - ‘Those who have no one by their sides have social service (Nei Pashe Kew Jar, Somaj Seba Ache Tar)’, is appropriate and time-befitting.

Under the National Social Security Strategy (NSSS), the Government to Person (G2P) system of allowances and various strategic reform programmes are playing an important role in strengthening the social safety net and alleviating poverty, he said.

It is very important to reach out the government's benefits to the doorsteps of truly destitute and helpless people for the overall development of the underprivileged and backward communities of the country, Shahabuddin said.

He hoped that eligible persons will be included in the social security programme through a transparent and non-discriminatory verification process.

"With the joint efforts of all, we will be able to establish Bangladesh as a modern welfare state," Shahabuddin added.

The president wished all programmes undertaken on the occasion of 'National Social Service Day, 2025' a success.
