DINAJPUR, Jan 29, 2025 (BSS) - A discussion meeting on "Breast Cancer
Awareness" was held today at the auditorium of Department of Surgery in
Dinajpur Medical College (DjMC).

Aimed at raising awareness among the women about breast cancer and creating a
supportive environment to prevent it, the event was organised on the occasion
of "Festival of Youth 2025".

Keeping ahead the slogan of "Let's change the country, change the world", the
hospital arranged the health campaign as part of the public awareness
activities, Director of the DjMC Dr. ATM Nuruzzaman confirmed.

Experts at the event highlighted the Self Breast Examination (SBE) technique.
Senior Staff Nurse Marina Sultana described the participants about the signs
and symptoms of breast cancer and how to protect themselves from the disease
presenting a video at the programme.

During the event, cancer specialists shared their insights; especially Dr.
Asif Ferdous from the Oncology Department of DjMC shared his experience on
radiation therapy, an essential component of cancer treatment.

Dr. Arpita Chowdhury, a medical officer with expertise in breast cancer care,
emphasized the importance of awareness like regular screenings [mammograms],
risk factors, prevention strategies, treatment options available, and the
significance of early detection to improve survival rates.

She stressed women, specially housewives, can safeguard their health through
knowledge and early detection for preventing breast cancer and highlighted
the need for open communication and support systems for those who are
affected by the disease.

Dinajpur Medical College Principal Professor Dr. Sheikh Sadeq Ali attended
the meeting as special guest.

DjMC director Dr. ATM Nuruzzaman and its assistant director Dr. Shyamoli Saha
participated in the programme.

The programme was directed by Head of the Surgery Department Professor Dr.
Md. Abdus Salam while Dr. Sanjida Khatun from the Surgery Outpatient
Department conducted it.

Among others, medical officers and intern doctors from the hospital were
present.
