UGC to take initiatives to protect intellectual property rights

DHAKA, Feb 4, 2025 (BSS) - The University Grants Commission (UGC) would take necessary initiatives to protect the intellectual property rights of research and innovation conducted by university teachers.
 
"The UGC will take initiatives to establish a cell soon in this regard . . . Initiatives will be taken to digitally preserve the information of research of the country's universities," UGC Member Professor Dr. Mashuma Habib told a meeting.
 
The Commission's Research and Grants Management Department organised the event here today with a view to evaluating research project proposals of business studies.
 
"There is no alternative to preserving research and innovation to implement the spirit of the July Uprising," she said.
 
She said special incentives will be provided to researchers to obtain patents on research. She expressed hope that these steps will take the country's universities forward in the world rankings.
 
Bangladesh Public Service Commission member Professor Dr. Chowdhury Saima Ferdous, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Md Hasanat Ali, Dhaka University Treasurer Professor Dr Mohammad Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Professor Dr Mohammad Helal Uddin, Professor Dr Md Shahidul Islam, Professor Md Makshudur Rahman Sarkar, Professor Dr Shakila Yasmin, Rajshahi University Professor Dr Md Atiqul Islam, Jahangirnagar University Professor Dr Irin Akhter, Associate Professors Momtaz Akhter and Abu Saif Md Muntakimul Bari Chowdhury, Jagannath University Professor Dr Sheikh Rafiqul Islam, Shahjalal University of Science and Technology Professor Dr Md Khairul Islam were present in the meeting.
 
UGC Research and Grants Management Director Dr. Ferdows Zaman presided over the meeting.
