DHAKA, Feb 6, 2025(BSS) - Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali today said that the traffic sergeants deployed on the roads and highways will get small arms to tackle snatching.

“We have laid maximum emphasis to the allegations of increase of mugging incidents in the capital,” he said while talking to the journalists after inaugurating city bus service through counter and e-ticketing at Uttara Azompur Kanchabazar here.

Chaired by the President of Dhaka Road Transport Owners Association M A Baten, the function was addressed, among others, by Additional Commissioner (Traffic) of the DMP Md Sarwar and General Secretary of Bangladesh Sarak Paribahan Sramik Federation Humayun Kabir Khan.

General Secretary of Dhaka Road Transport Owners Association Md Saiful Alam was present at the function as main speaker.

“We have already intensified anti-mugging drive and held many snatchers from the city. As a result, the numbers of snatching incidents have come down and our drive would be continued,” he said.

The muggers at different spots showed their illegal arms while committing crimes, so, we have decided to provide small arms to the on duty sergeants on roads and highways.
