WELLINGTON, Feb 7, 2025 (BSS/AFP) - New Zealand police said Friday they were
looking to extradite two Vietnamese officials accused of sexually assaulting
restaurant staff during a visit last year.

The officials were part of a Vietnamese delegation that dined in capital
Wellington in March 2024, police commissioner Richard Chambers said.

Following the dinner, police received "two complaints of assault".

Chambers said he was hopeful the men would be sent back to face justice in
New Zealand, despite the lack of an extradition treaty between the countries.

"We have had positive engagement with Vietnamese officials to date, and I am
confident that will continue," he said in a statement.

"While this process is ongoing and complex, we hope our ongoing efforts
provide some assurance to the complainants that we are taking this matter
seriously."

Police last year said "two women were indecently assaulted by two men while
working" at Saigon restaurant in the central city.
