2 residential halls of Begum Rokeya University renamed

RANGPUR, Feb 8, 2025 (BSS) - Two residential halls of Begum Rokeya University Rangpur (BRUR) have been renamed. 
 
The decision was taken at the 110th syndicate meeting of the university held at the administrative building today with Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Md. Showkat Ali in the chair.
 
“The syndicate meeting also decided to rename the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall as Bijay 24 Hall and Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall as Shaheed Felani Hall,” told the VC at a press briefing there this evening. 
 
He said the university has decided to celebrate Shaheed Abu Sayeed Day with due dignity on July 16 every year marking the contribution of Shaheed Abu Sayeed in the anti-discrimination movement. 

“Classes and examinations will be suspended in the university on this day, but administrative activities will continue,” he added.
 
The Vice-chancellor called for observing the Shaheed Abu Sayeed Day in all educational institutions at the national level across the country. 
 
“In addition, a decision has been taken to waive all types of university fees for the injured students of BRUR in the July movement,” he said.
 
He said that every year in February, the month of language, the university administration has decided to organize a 7-day book fair in the name of Shaheed Abu Sayeed, a martyred of July-August uprising.
