World Post Day tomorrow

DHAKA, Oct 8, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh will join the global community in celebrating World Post Day tomorrow, marking the occasion with a range of colorful events and awareness activities.

A two-day programme will be held at Dak Bhaban in Agargaon, organized by the Department of Posts and Telecommunications under the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, said a ministry release today.

Observed worldwide on October 9, World Post Day commemorates the founding of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874. 

The theme for this year is "Post for the People: Local Services, Global Reach."

The observance aims to highlight the importance of a modern, inclusive postal system in connecting people and businesses, and its role in fostering social and economic progress.

A press conference will be held at 4 pm today at Dak Bhaban to brief on the planned events.

Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser in charge of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, will inaugurate the celebrations and deliver a speech at the opening ceremony.

Among others, Posts and Telecommunications Secretary Abdun Naser Khan, ICT Secretary Sheesh Haider Chowdhury, senior officials, postal employees, students, and media representatives will attend the event.

The festivities will begin tomorrow with a colorful procession starting from Dak Bhaban at 8 am, parading through the Agargaon area. 

The official opening ceremony will follow at 10 am, while a seminar titled "Post in the Future" will take place at 3:30 pm, featuring discussions on the digital transformation of postal services and future innovations.

On the second day (Friday), drawing and quiz competitions for students will be held from 10 am, followed by a closing and award ceremony in the afternoon.

Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Adviser for Environment, Forest and Climate Change and also in charge of the Ministry of Water Resources, will attend the concluding ceremony as chief guest.

To mark the occasion, the Chief Adviser will also release a special commemorative postage stamp, the release added.
