DHAKA, Feb 9, 2025 (BSS) - The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) today placed Armed Police Battalion (APBn) constable Mohammad Sujan, who was seen shooting at a student-people rally in the capital's Chankharpul area on August 5, on a one-day remand.

The two-member tribunal led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder passed the order, allowing a plea of the prosecution.

"The tribunal placed Sujon on one-day remand on February 12, 2025," prosecutor BM Sultan Mahmud told BSS.

The tribunal on January 12, 2025, sent Mohammad Sujan to jail, showing him arrested in a case filed for crimes against humanity and genocide. The ICT also had set February 23 for submitting the probe report in the case.

"Constable Mohammad Sujan was seen shooting from his Chinese rifle aiming at the protesters near Shaikh Burhanuddin Post Graduate College in the capital's Chankharpul area on August 5. Video footage of Sujan's firing and expressing joy after hitting protesters became viral on social media platforms. We have already filed screengrabs of those footages before the tribunal," the prosecutor added.

The APBn handed Sujan over to the Detective Branch on September 13. Shahbagh police later took Sujan into custody in connection with a murder case filed over the police station.

Meanwhile, the tribunal today also issued arrest warrants against several accused in cases filed over atrocities carried out in the city's Uttara, Rampura and Gulshan areas.

Prosecutors BM Sultan Mahmud and Gazi MH Tamim moved the pleas before the tribunal.
