Travel embargo imposed on ex-minister Abdur Razzaque, wife, son

DHAKA, Feb 9, 2025 (BSS) - A court here today imposed a travel ban on former agriculture minister and Awami League (AL) presidium member Dr Md Abdur Razzaque, his wife Shirin Akhter Banu and son Rezwan Shahnewaj over graft allegations.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order, allowing a plea of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

The anti-graft body in its plea said the former minister and his family members are accused of amassing huge illegal wealth through extortion, embezzlement of government money through corruption and selling party posts, among others irregularities.

"The ACC has already appointed an official to investigate allegations of amassing illegal wealth and laundering crores against Razzaque and his family members. The trio is trying to flee the country to evade justice and travel embargo should be imposed on them," the plea said.

Abdur Razzaque was arrested from the capital's Eskaton area around on October 14, and is now behind bars.
