Former CEC Justice Abdur Rouf passes away

DHAKA, Feb 09, 2025 (BSS) - Former Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Justice Md Abdur Rouf passed away today while undergoing treatment at Insaf Barakah Kidney and General Hospital in the capital.

He was 91.

The former Appellate Division judge breathed his last around 9:55am.

He had been suffering from lung complications, heart disease, kidney ailments, and age-related illnesses for a long time.

His first namaz-e-janaza will be held today after Asr prayers at Gausul Azam Mosque in Mohakhali.

The second janaza will be held after Zohr prayers tomorrow at the National Eidgah ground on the Supreme Court premises while the third janaza after Maghrib prayers at Dapunia High School ground in Mymensingh Sadar, followed by his burial at the family graveyard beside his mother.

Justice Rouf left behind two sons, a daughter, and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.

He served as the country's fifth chief election commissioner from late 1990 to early 1995. He was also chairman of Barakah Foundation.
