DHAKA, Mar 2, 2025 (BSS) – Home Adviser Lt. Gen. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd.) today said the prices of the essential commodities were lower compared to the previous year.

“The price of commodities is comparatively lesser than the previous year. You (journalists) have to say it. It is better to keep the price of the goods lower without conducting any drive against the syndicate,” he said.

He was speaking to journalists after inspecting the Public Order Management office at Mirpur here this evening.

The home adviser called upon the businessmen not to increase price of the essentials during the holy month of Ramadan referring to the practices in foreign countries where the prices of commodities usually decline during their religious festivals.

“On the contrary, we increase the price of commodities during our religious festivals,” he said, requesting all concerned to lower the price of essentials whatever possible during the Ramadan.

Replying to a question about the assault on two women in broad daylight, the home adviser said the incident happened when the women threw tea on some people as they protested smoking by the females in the open place.

Jahangir called upon all to protect the sanctity of the Ramadan by taking no food in the open place.
