DHAKA, Oct 6, 2025 (BSS) – Recently, a misleading piece of information is being disseminated through social media by distorting a statement of the Bangladesh Army Chief - which is a “deliberate propaganda”.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate, in a statement, today said the Army Chief in his address on September 30 did not mention anything about giving indemnity to anyone accused of disappearances, murders or other crimes against humanity.

“But an identified malicious group, especially some individuals residing abroad, are, as always, distorting the statement of the Army Chief and making misleading posts through social media for dishonest and nefarious purposes,” it mentioned.

It further said through it, these groups are trying to create a distance between the patriotic army and the people as well.

The Bangladesh Army has been discharging their responsibility remaining committed to the Constitution, the laws of the state and the people upholding professionalism and discipline and they will continue to do so in the future, the ISPR said.

The ISPR said that the false and misleading campaign being carried out by an unscrupulous and malicious quarter through social media by distorting the statements of the Army Chief is completely intentional and baseless.

In this situation, the public is humbly requested to remain alert about such misleading and untrue information, it added.

On September 30, a research report on finding ways to further improve and accelerate the activities of the army engaged in providing assistance to the civil administration was presented on the deployment of army members as per the prevailing laws of the country and its various challenges.

The discussion focused on various aspects of controlling the law and order situation at the field level in line with the ‘magistracy powers’ currently given to the army under the Bangladesh Penal Code (CrPC) Section 127-132 applicable to In Aid to Civil Power.

The main objective of this event was to ensure that the army personnel deployed in the field correctly understand the applicable law and perform their assigned duties with professionalism and efficiency by providing legal, administrative and institutional education, the ISPR mentioned.

At one stage of the event, the issue of indemnity provided under CrPC 132 for army members deployed in the field In Aid to Civil Power came up and as part of the discussion, the army chief focused on indemnity provided under CrPC 132 and its conflicting position with the International Crimes (Tribunal) Act, 1973 (amended 2024), it said.

The army personnel, who are on duty at the field level under the government order under the CrPC, disperse the illegal public gatherings as per the legal provisions provided.

Therefore, the need to ensure legal protection of these army personnel on duty is undeniable also. The army has already informed the concerned authorities of the government about the matter, the ISPR added.
