DMP arrests 1,631 crime suspects in 6-day

DHAKA, March 3, 2025 (BSS) - Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested 1,631 crime suspects including muggers, robbers, drug dealers and extortionists in the last six days since the intensified drives across the capital city started on February 25 to ensure public safety and maintain law and order. 

In the last 24 hours till Sunday midnight, 160 more people, allegedly involved in various criminal activities, from across the capital city, said a DMP statement. 

The arrestees include six active robbers, 17 professional snatchers, 18 thieves, 20 identified drug dealers and 19 wanted in criminal cases. 

Three knives, one ramdaos, six mobile phones, two motorcycles were seized during the operation. 

The DMP also seized 5,030 pieces of yaba tablets and 580 gram ganja from them. In the last 24 hours, 36 cases were registered with different police stations of DMP against the arrestees. 

As part of the heightened security across the capital city, coordinated check posts and patrol activities have been increased in coordination with DMP and other law enforcing agencies. 

According to the Crime Command and Control Center of DMP, 667 patrol teams of DMP performed their duties in 50 police stations of Dhaka Metropolitan Police for public safety in 24 hours from 12:01am to 11:59pm on Sunday (March 2, 2025). 

Besides, 71 police check posts were conducted by the DMP at various important and strategic locations to increase security in the metropolitan area. 

While 14 patrol teams of the CTTC, 12 of the Anti-Terrorism Unit (ATU) and 10 patrol teams of the DMP and RAB are responsible for various crime-prone areas of the metropolis to maintain public safety and law and order. 

Twenty more check posts are operated by the specialized unit of the police, APBN, along with the DMP.
