JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY, Mar 10, 2025 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) of Jahangirnagar University (JU) unit today protested the recent rape incidents and demanded exemplary punishment for the rapists.

The leaders and activists of the unit formed a human chain at the central Shaheed Minar premises of the university around 3:30pm.

Addressing the human chain, Tanzila Hossain Boishakhi, member of JU Chhatra Dal, said, "If we open the newspaper after March 8, there were over 20 rape incidents and at least 10 child-related incidents. How can we then address such occurrences? When shall we see the visible implementations of the laws?"

Jahir Uddin Babor, convener of JU Chhatra Dal, said, "Our sisters played a crucial role during the July uprising. However, they are now subject to abuse, bullying, rape and harassment countrywide. The impunity culture has been long-standing since the ousted fascist regime. For this reason, the culprits dared to commit such heinous offences."

He urged the interim government to prosecute the culprits with exemplary punishment without any delay.

Member secretary of JU Chhatra Dal Wasim Ahmed Anik conducted the programme.

Meanwhile, another group of JU students under the banner of "Students' Union of Public Administration" also formed a human chain around 1.15pm at the Amar Ekushey sculpture premises in protest of repression against women and recent rape incidents.
