BANDARBAN, April 5, 2025 (BSS) - Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Adviser Supradip Chakma has said there was no power shortage in Ramadan and there has been no electricity shortage so far this summer also.
"You have performed the fasting (Ramadan) very well this year . . . You have to admit it to the Yunus government," he said while speaking as the chief guest at the Platinum Jubilee function of Bandarban Government High School here today.
Referring to the prices of brinjal and essentials, the adviser said, "Was a kilogram of brinjal worth Taka 200 at the time of Ramadan? It was at a tolerable level. Usually prices of goods increase during the Ramadan but it has not increased so much this time."
About the Eid security arrangements for the citizens, Supradip Chakma said, "We want to provide security to everyone. We want to create a happy, prosperous future generation. The rights of the city-dwellers are the same as the rights of the people of the Ctg areas and efforts are on in this connection."
The adviser emphasised on ensuring quality education and said, "Otherwise we won't survive in the competitive world. We want a five percent quota. I'm in favor of the quota as I am going with the quota now. The quota will remain with me until the end of my life."
Noting that the three hill districts are the most backward of the 64 districts of the country, he said everyone has to take this area forward in days to come.
It is the responsibility of the seniors to keep the ethnic groups here well and the Bangalis are our senior brothers. It's our teaching that each of us has to live well.
Among others, Bandarban Hill District Council Chairman Professor Thanjama Lusai, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) SM Manjurul Alam, Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Shahidullah Kawser, Zone Commander Lieutenant Colonel ASM Mahmudul Hasan and senior officials of the administration and dignitaries were present at the event.
Earlier, the programme was inaugurated by releasing balloons in front of the school.
A colorful procession was brought out in the morning which started from the premises of the school and ended at the same venue after parading the city streets.
The daylong event included theme song performance, cultural programs, awarding mementos to teachers and eminent personalities, and memorial service of former students.
Meanwhile, the school premises turned into a gathering with the participation of thousands of alumni on the occasion of Platinum Jubilee.
