Govt provides free legal advices to 4, 74,618

DHAKA, April 16, 2025 (BSS) – The government through National Legal Aid Services Organization (NLASO) from 2009 to March, 2025, has provided free legal advices to 
4, 74,618 justice seekers.

Confirming the matter through its monthly update on the NLASO website, the statutory organization of the government under the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, said 2,41,343 people were given legal advices from its legal aid offices in 64 districts.

“A total of 1, 86,268 people received legal advices by calling on the national toll free helpline number 16430, while 25,581 people got the service from Supreme Court Legal Aid Office,” it added.

Apart from these, 21,426 people received free legal advices from two labour law aid cells in Dhaka and Chattogram.

The NLASO also realized Taka 252, 51, 61,081 as compensation for insolvent justice seekers during the time.

Of the total amount, Taka 245, 88, 34,866 was realized through 64 district legal aid offices, while Taka 6, 63, 26,215 was realized through two labour law aid cells in Dhaka and Chattogram.

Legal aid was also given in 4,21,364 cases, of which 4,13,687 cases received legal aid from district legal aid offices of the NLASO, 4,421 cases from two labour law aid cells in Dhaka and Chattogram and 3,256 cases from Supreme Court Legal Aid Office.

A total of 2,15,241 cases were disposed of by providing legal aid. Of the cases, 2,12,151 received legal aid from district legal aid offices and 2,286 cases were disposed through the legal aid provided by the Supreme Court Legal Aid Office.

A total of 1,26,372 inmates have received free legal aid from NLASO since 2009.
