Police arrest six AL, banned BCL leaders in city

DHAKA, April 18, 2025 (BSS) - Police have arrested six leaders of Awami League (AL) and banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) from the city’s various areas.

The arrestees are - former AL general secretary of Dhaka City South unit Shahe Alam Murad, president of ward No.50 Awami Jubo League  of Dhaka City South unit Md Arif Hossain, president of ward No.20 Awami Jubo League of Dhaka City unit Md Shahabuddin, Law affairs Secretary of Dhaka City North AL unit Advocate Anisur Rahman, former councilor of ward no-23 of Dhaka North City Corporation Md Shakhawat Hossain and vice-president of Sir AF Rahman Hall unit of banned BCL in Dhaka University Bappy Raihan. 

A press release signed by Deputy Police Commissioner (DC) of the DMP's Media and Public Relations Division Muhammad Talebur Rahman confirmed the matter today.

The Detective Branch (DB) of Police conducted operations in different areas of the capital and arrested them.

Police said the DB team arrested Shahe Alam Murad from Uttara area yesterday.

DB Wari team arrested Bappy Raihan and Md Arif Hossain from Fulbaria bus stand area.

Another DB team under Motijheel division arrested Md Shakhawat Hossain from Khilgaon area while a cyber crime team arrested Md Shahabuddin from Shantinagar area.

Besides, another DB team arrested Advocate Anisur Rahman from a house in Tejgaon area.
